Pecan in Peckham: Supporting the local community

Peckham-based charity Pecan is probably best known for running Southwark Foodbank, which provides emergency food for people in crisis, but it also works with partners to help tackle the underlying causes of food poverty, and runs several other services:

  • Peckham Pantry supports people to improve their financial resilience and confidence through a membership scheme: members can pay a few pounds a week, in return for which they can choose groceries worth many times more. 

  • The Together Cafe is a free café and warm space open for all on Mondays and Tuesdays and offering a range of activities, support and advice, 

  • The Employment Support programme has an amazing team that supports people to get back into work at a pace that suits them.

  • Pecan also runs a Women’s Hub, providing a safe and welcoming space for those affected by the criminal justice system, and for women seeking support, information, and community.

I had the huge privilege of photographing Pecan’s different services earlier this year. It meant so much to me to be able to play a tiny part in helping Pecan communicate about its incredible work. Here is a small selection of images:
